Iv'e just been reading some of the post and i have been wondering about the same subject you have encountered with your drain plug.I hope you have got it repaired without to much expense. The owners manual says only 16lbs. of torque.Dosen't sound like much, but that plate looks pretty thin! I would like to know how you fixed it!

The tools needed to take off your skid plate it located in your Arctic Cat tool kit under the seat of the bike.

I recomend taking the hole skid plate off and cleaning out all the mud that builds up between the round tubing frame and the flat skid plate. Also use PLENTY of WD-40 when removing and installing the screws.

I find the best way to reinstall the skid plate is to start with the first to front screws going back to the swing arm.

ps. I normally stand my cat up on it's rear rack to remove/install the skid plate, makes it ALOT easier to do.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback! I did manage to remove the skid plate with no problems. Thanks Boner for the advice on using lots of WD40 when I put it back together. And thanks for the idea of standing the machine on end, I may give that a try.

I decided to go ahead and replace the drain plug plate. I had to order it from my dealer (they had none in stock) so I haven't finished the repair yet. It should be in before this weekend. I ordered the plate, o-ring gasket, and plug and it was only about $27. I was relieved! When this first happened I was envisioning maybe 10 times that amount to have it repaired (it may be that much if the dealer does it at a $50/hr labor rate). I decided to wait to remove the damaged plate until I have the new one in hand. I'll let you know how the repair goes and if I run in to any unexpected problems. Thanks for the support!

The repair went well, no problems. The skid plate came off with no trouble and the drain plug plate was no trouble to replace. Thanks to all the discussion on this, I really appreciate the ideas. I had definate panic when it first happened, but felt alot better when I read your replies. I'm back on the trails and looking for mud! See you out there!
