#11
i have a 2003 ac 300 4x4, i was dealing with the same problem with my machine. i cured my problem by installing a new spark plug. although it would start with the old one it refused to idle & backfired when i increased throttle. try a new plug. hope this cures your problem i always carry a couple of new plugs all the time

I have the same problem with my 300. I have to nurse the throttle to take the choke off. If I don't take the choke off soon enough the plug fouls. It seems that the plug fouls very easily anyway. My dealer told me that the best way to keep this from happening is to ride the bike as soon as possible after starting. That burns off the unburned fuel on the plug. I think that folks who ride long distances have this problem less than those of us who just need to tow something from one side of the property to the other.
Its the short use periods that make the problem worse. By the way, I always have new plugs on hand but I found that a household product called Greased Lightning will clean a fouled plug. I have seen no ill efects from this cleaning method so far.
