650 Stalling Problem
#1
I've been reading this forum for a while and I appreciate the great information, I'm hoping someone can help.
I've got an AC 650 VTwin (2004), since it's gotten cold here in WI my cat has been stalling out when I let off the throttle. I've adjusted the idle, but this seems to help for only a while.
When I throttle up, dark smoke comes out of the exhaust. It's probably a coincidence, but this all started when my battery died, which I've replaced at this point (wouldn't hold a charge), the new one seems to work fine.
I've checked my oil level based on a few of the recent posts I've read and the level with the stick screwed in is up to the top line, not sure if this is too much, but I ran it most of the summer at this level...
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Black smoke means you are running very rich. If you havn't used your choke much until it got cold, I would say that your choke cable is hung up on one or maybe both of your carbs. This is very common on the 650 V-2's.

Is this an easy fix, or am I going to end up bringing it in?
I think you nailed it, I remember it running fine until I did try the choke when it was cold, in fact I think it was the first time I've ever used the choke. Great information (probably common sense to most, but I've never run into any problems with the machine to this point)
Any suggestions on how to approach this thing??

The dealer replaced my choke cable under Warrantee on my 04 650 because it was so screwed up. I watched the mechanic spray some lube into both ends of the cable before he installed it. If you are still under warrantee, I would suggest letting the dealer take a look at it so if the cable is screwed up, he won't blame you and he should replace it under warrantee. I have a great dealer so I never have warrantee issues. So far, no problems with my 05 but I work the choke lever once in a while when it is not running to keep it losened up.
