i am thinking of useing a full size auto battery on the starting system of my ac 300 4x4. does anyone know if this would cause any problems with my electrical system ? the battery is a napa 65 cold cranking amp 12volt battery. also what is the best regular size battery that i can trust in very cold weather ? i have a new volt reg and it seems to be working just fine . i replaced the factory ac battery with a battery from advance auto and it goes dead when its sets out in the cold for any length of time and i have to scrap it ? to cheap of a battery ?

If its 12 volt, and you have room for it, and you hook the cabels up correctly, there will be no problems. The internal resistance of the starter motor, determines how much current will flow, so whether you have a 6 amp hour battery or a 1000, the current is the same when you press the starter button.
Best advice is what vinnie said, test the current battery, and get a battery tender to leave hooked up for when its not being used.

i don,t think there is room where the factory battery is located, however on my machine there is plenty of room under the back above the trailer hitch. a small battery box constructed of 1 inch angle iron and ' BOLTED ' on the frame. i would not recomend altering or welding on the frame itself. a plastic battery box can fit in the angle iron box to to protect the battery. i am thinking of useing u-bolts to secure the angle iron box. you can do almost anything with a set of torches & a welder. be careful not to void your warrenty. if useing u-bolts the only holes that will have to be drilled are in the angle iron itself. a bit of fab work experience is helpful but with careful thought it can be done & i would not weld on the angle iron while it is bolted to your machine. i think i will try vinnies suggestion first though.

I can see going this route if you have a winch and would like to be able to use it without the engine running. Other than that the starter motor, if it is healthy, shouldn't draw enough amps to cause your present battery to be overworked, if the battery is healthy too. If you do add the bigger battery to your 300 why not put it in front of the engine to counter the already rear weight bais? There is room and it would also be easier to service there.

The water / tank heaters work REALLY good. I've plugged mine in for 2 hours and it started like a warm summer day - no choke. I've started it at 22 below zero without problem. And those heaters are pretty durable. My brother keeps his plugged in 24x7 at the cabin most all winter long. No problems and hes been doing it for 3 years.
