Winch Rope Needs Replacing
#1
I need to replace the wire rope on my warn winch, but the Warn site doesn't have instructions on how to do this. Please provide directions or a site that I can find directions. Thanks!

Having never change a cable on any of my electric winches, I can't tell you exactly. But I've chan hundreds of cables on hand winches abd seen several types of attachment systems. I suggest you pull all the cable out and see if it is as easy as a bead crimped on the end of the cable that needs slipped out of a slot. A new cable may well have instructions.

Hey all. I e-mailed Warn Technical Support for directions on replacing the winch cable and they sent me a 1-page diagram that was super easy to follow and replaced the cable in no time. Basically make a loop at the end of the cable, put the pin through the hole, and pull the cable back through the center of the winch (the pin stops the cable from coming through).

Definitely go with winch ROPE instead of cable. Welll worth the money.
They are stronger and they won't produce finger cutting frays. More importantly, they do not store energy. If you happen to snap your cable it will go flying, the rope will not.
If you go with the rope be sure to ditch the roller lead, the rope can get pinched in the rollers.

I've been looking at replacing my wire with rope. Anyone know where the best place to get rope would be, and more importantly the best brand to get?
