I am looking at the Mudbugs for mud, but I dont know how good they will do on hard dirt, and trail riding(which makes the Vampies a bad choice). Are the Mudbugs a good tire for trail riding and climbing through creeks? Or would the Blackwaters be a better choice?

Thanks for the help

I wouldn't get Blackwaters unless I was just really picky about the ride. They are the least aggressive 27" tire there is. The Bugs are pretty salty though. There are a few guys around the forums that have them. I haven't heard any bad remarks about them at all.

I'm with Andy on the Blackwaters. I saw a set on a Honda while up at elk camp, though they were the stock size. They really didn't do that well in the mud at all, pretty much just caked up and were slipping all over the place. He also couldn't get the traction with them that was needed for a few of the steep hill climbs to get to the upper trails.

Jim was asking about the Mud Bugs as well, and I suggested he take a look at the Maxxis web site. If you haven't seen it already, its at www.maxxistires.com. Follow the links to the atv tires, then the Mud Bugs, they've got a nice feature chart on there for the various sizes. One thing to remember though, they will measure slightly smaller than actual true measured heigth. I think the 27" Mud Bugs measure in around 26.2-26.4" in actual true heigth, but I could be off a bit on that.

Another one that several guys are comparing too instead of the Blackwaters, are the Titan 589's. They supposedly do pretty well in the Mud, even took the Dirt Wheels Mud Tire shoot out a while back, in the 25" size, if I remember right. Supposed to be fairly well trail mannered as well.

I personnally am thrilled with the performance of my Bi/Tri Claws, though they are more of a heavy lugged Mud Tire in comparison to the smaller lugged Bugs. They do ride very well on the trails though, and handle everything very well. Only thing I'd warn against them is rocks, but being a mud tire, that's a given. Another bonus is they're True to size and actually a hair taller than they actually claim, so you get more of a ground clearance gain than with any other tire.

Best of luck in the decision,

Mike

I'd say go with the Titian 589s. The 25x10x12 scored the same score as teh 27x12x12 Mud Bugs in the mud, yet ride a good bit better. Mug Bugs are not a bad tire, but I personaly prefer the 589s over the Mud Bugs after seeing how my freind with a 27" Mud Bugs on a 450 did.

I would sugest the 589, I have them on the back of my 300. They pull great in mud and clean out good to they pull in sand ok but they gave my atv that floting feeling when you ride on a dirt road. Another sugestion is the new dirt devil that is advertised in Dirt Wheels.
