Default Synthetic oil

I'm buying a new Arctic Cat 400 auto. I will be picking it up next week. The dealer says to bring it in for service between 100 to 200 miles. That I plan on doing. My question is how many of you use synthetic oil and when would you chage over to synthetic oil? My dealer sounds like he's not a synthetic oil person. I live in the north so it will be cold. I plan on plowing snow, ice fishing and thought the synthetic oil would be better for the cold weather. Your thoughts? Thanks Keppy

After 100 miles FOR SURE switch to synthetic. Arctic Cat makes some good stuff, but I use the Amsoil 0W-40 stuff. I love it. Also you don't have to change your oil as often.

Catterman is right, i use amsoil 0-40 also, and also the amsoil filter, which i think you need to have the largest drain interval.

Thanks Catterman and v2rider
I talk to my son which sells Amsoil last nite. So you know I will be running Amsoil. Amsoil makes filter for them also. How often do you change oil. All the guys I know that have ATV's run regular oil and change fall and spring no matter how many miles or hours. There only putting on about 400 to 600 miles a year, so I guess that's not to many. Well thanks for the reply. Keppy

With the Amsoil, i change around 600-750 miles, depending on the conditions. AC reccomendes, with regular oil, every 300 miles

I say change oil once a year, or every 500 - 1000 miles if you use the Amsoil. If you ride hard, do it more like the 500, otherwise you are safe up to 1000 with synthetic.

Synthetic is the way to go.........long service life and doesn't break down. Much better protection.
Switch at your first oil change.

If you'll be running it through the winter, definitely go wtih 0W-40. Amsoil makes a great oil, and their ATV oil is good.
