In the Oct. issue of Dirt Wheels, it reviews the new 700 and suggests a Front Steering Stabilizer to improve the steering even more (sacrifies suspension travel) to keep it in track when hitting ruts and improve trail handling. I have a 400 and wanted your thoughts on improving steering on trails. I've noticed that other riders can make tight turns where I'm having to reverse to make turns or my turns just aren't as tight as theirs in open fields. Also, sometimes at fast speed and I turn quickly, the front end just sinks and tends to roll to the outside so I have to straighten out quickly so it doesn't flip. Would a stabilizer help this or is my suspension set-up wrong? I have the front and rear setting at the lowest (?) setting so the suspension is softer. I'm not concerned with impacting travel as I'm more for going through things then flying over them. Please let me know any thoughts you have.

 

I think the stabilizer is like $150 from Arctic Cat. People who have them love them. It is not for me as you do lose some articulation and that is one thing I love on the Cats. However if you want to go faster (and safer) on the trails this, along with new tires, is the thing to do.

You might also check out highlifter.com for a set of HD springs. I have a set on my 400. Between new tires and those springs the roll or dip to the outside went away.

It allowed me to ride with shocks on a softer setting making for a cushy ride but cut way down on the roll/dip on corners.

The only negative I have noticed with the HD spings is when you go over a wash board like trail/road. The shocks just do not seem to be "intune" withthe bumps and over a long distance over sucha surface the whole machine begins to gallop. (for the lack of a better way of explaining it)

These springs are also about $150.

hell just get some 6-ply tires and tighten up the suspension a lil and you won't have any body roll anymore. the stock cat tires are crap. if you don't need the articulation, it may be for you but if you do like the articulation save the 150 dollars and put it down towards new tires.

 

hes talking about the front stabalizer not the rear. you can not buy the front from AC. I have the denton steering stabilizer on my 450r 19,000 buck into it,and the steering stabalizer was top 5 most improvement easy. Now i know there to different worlds 4x4 and Sport, but im here to tell you as soon as my AC 700 gets back from the shop ill be putting my 26" Bighorns, rear sway bar, and denton steering stabalizer on

 

farrell i was talking about the front one, you will still lose articulation with the front one on. and if you don't need that then more power to you but you will get the same results out of a good pair of tires with stiffer sidewalls and not lose the articulation that alot of us use and love on our cats.

 

catterman stated that you can get one for 150 at AC, i was just stating that hes talking about the rear. you can not get a front one from AC. You have to go aftermarket. Thats all im sayin. not saying one way is better than the other im just saying that im buying one and ill let everyone know how it works out.
