How do you adjust the suspension on the artic cat 500. Do you need a special tool or what? I tried to turn it but it seamed to hard and if I was to put more force on it it would break the soft aluminum. And at what settings do you have yours on. Mine is on the first notch. thanks.

I have an 06 500 purchased bran new and it came with a tool. Looks like a hook. The shocks were factory set in the middle. I have not tried to move them seeing I like the ride the way it is.

You need a wrench for the shocks, or i think Bear uses something else like a big channel locks, but i would ask a nearby AC dealer for a wrench

Use a large pair of channel Lock plier's, the cheap aluminum tool that come's with the quad's are not stronge enough to do the job; i bent the one that came with my 400............williebee

Also, put a cooler or good jack under the a-arms to take the weight off them. It makes it a lot easier to adjust the suspension. The tool came in the owners manual bag, but I've heard they bend easy. So far, I've been lucky.

If you use the supplied wrench, it's in the tool kit, you will break it (it's a cheap piece of crap), if you don't take the weight off the wheel being adjusted and lube it with DW-40 or some such lube. That's why I use Channel Locks, you can do it without lube and with the machine sitting on the ground. FYI, I tried mine set all over the place and ended up back where the factory set it. It suits my riding style best there.
