Default AC plow frame question

I have a 98 AC 300 4x4. I have a chance to buy a new AC plow frame. My question is, will this new plow frame fit my 98? He thinks it will and I just need to buy a mounting plate for a 98.

Laker,

"He" refers to who?

If its a dealer he should be able to tell you if they even make a mounting plate for a 98 AC 300. If its not a dealer, I would look for the plate first as it is cheaper than the plow.

Also I hope its not a 60 inch plow. If it is your 300 may have difficulty pushing it with much snow (or heavy snow).

I am not sure if the newer mounting plates whould work on a 98 AC. The mounting plate I have came from AC and said on the package for a 400/500 ATV.

It's not a dealer, its some guy in the paper. I think i'll just order one from my local dealer. I can get it for 1/2 the price of a new one, but if it dosen't fit its worthless to me. As far as the size of the plow, my drive way is only 80 x 20 so I was going to get a 50".

Laker,

For the size of the plow you should measure the width of your machine and make sure the plow will cover an area wider than you tires when the blade is angled.

This way you do not have little windrows to clean up after each pass.

I think 50" is about right for a 300. I know a 300 is narrower than my 400 which is 50 inches wide.

Swampy, My 300 is about 44inches wide (outside the tires). Do you think a 50" blade would be ok?

Yes, it should be fine. My machine in about 50 inches wide and my plow is 60 inches long.

The only time I have a problem is when the snow piles up and comes over the top of the blade.

You also need to watch your head lights when plowing in the dark. The plow can partially cover them when in the raised position and make it hard to see dips in the road in the dark.

That is of course besides the argument my wife and I have about it. She thinks plowing snow is "fun" I call it "work". (It is actually a little fun I just don't want her to know that)

I made a "pod" light and a rear flood light, to be used mainly for plowing. The pod light cost me about $20 at Wal Mart, and the flood light was $12 at Fleet Farm, both easy to install. I put each on its own on/off switch, and wired it up to my keyed ignition. So far so good.

Good idea on the rear light Catterman. I made an MRP light bar on the front with 2-55watt halogen light and also just added a light to the handlebars by the instrument cluster that turns with the handlebars.

I thought about making another rear MRP light bar for backing up when plowing.

You know how dark it gets up here in winter when you are "having fun".
