The Dealer is a moron. Slime can not hurt metal of any kind and it is water solubles, which means you can rinse it off with a hose if you need to take the tire off.

Slime is not the best solution for every situation. Many punctures are too large for slime to repair, for instance a large nail or screw. Some of these punctures can be repaired on the trail with sticky rope plugs with extra cement. Once slime has contaminated a puncture then the sticky rope plug often will not hold. Slime will also cause difficulties when removing tire to patch from inside. Some side wall tears are not repairable. I carry the Walmart sticky rope plugs with extra cement, plyers to remove whatever caused puncture, and small 12 volt compressor. Top of the line 6 ply aftermarket tires such as Maxxis Bighorns are also good insurance. You can usually prevent tires from rolling off rim by just watching air pressure.

another preperation you can do is get a stiffer tire. the itp 589's claim to be the toughest tire on the market for punctures. this doesn't mean they won't but i have put mine through hell and back. i did slice the sidewall once while spinning i think i hooked a nail or something and i drove back with ease the rim didn't touch the ground at all. but i would agree get some green slime
