Default Removing rear drive shaft

Hello all ,

Can anyone give me an idea of how hard it will be to remove the rear drive shaft on an 01 400 manual 4x4? What exactly will I have to remove ? I took the 4 bolts that hold the shaft to the motor but it seem that I may have to remove it from the rear as well. Can anyone help me here....

Thanks in advance

Eugene

Never done it. But I think I would take the 'C' clips out of the universal joint and take that apart, once the universal joint is out then you can slide the drive shaft out, once it is unbolted. Other than that you would have to take your differential or engine out. I don't think you want to do that.

Opps, you are talking about the REAR drive shaft... looks like you take out the 3 bolts near the differential and the ones toward the tranny and it should fall in your hands....

Thanks for the info ... I have the service manual but it did not show much about removing it. All I really need to do is replcae the seal for the rear diff. but it seems I have to remove the whole shaft to do so ..

I will check back later

Well I worked on it some tonight and So far I had to remove the shock and link arms on one side to remove the shaft. Then I had to remove the 4 hex key bolts that hold the housing on so that I can get the seal out... Damn thing did not want to come out at all.. So far all is apat and cleaned .. Just wanting on the new seal to come in. Will keep you posted on my advanture.

Has anyone else had to replace this seal before ?
