I believe the 188lbs of torque are at the crank</end quote></div>

but thats more power than most cars, its cant be done without a turbo

do you know what you are saying?

188ft/lbs of torque is equal to about 257NM THAT IS 3.5X the torque of the outty 800 with only a 150cc increase??

I smell BS

Any news on the horsepower of this beast yet. I think 188lbs of torque sounds a little crazy as well. Wonder how this thing is actually going to perform against some of the other big dogs, like the new brute force EFI and the Outty 800. I may have to switch teams if this thing is the the 75 hp range. Keep me posted guys, this thing sounds awesome and I plan on getting a new quad this year.

It's now beyond time for Yamaha to step up and offer a bigger bore.

The torque number is really 188 at the crank. So they are not comparing apples to apples with the other manufactures. Real torque numbers will be A LOT less. Arctic Cat wanted to publish the 188 as a "shock effect". It is not hard to believe that the engine can do 188 AT THE CRANK.

Careful guys, they are trying to trick you with the torque value. The engine crank is the way to compare enignes. The output shaft's value will always be much higher and different between models. 1st they only say 188lbs., so ft-lbs or in-lbs? Probably ft-lbs. But then they say that is at the output shaft. The Can-am's Rotax 800 is 53ft-lbs at the crank, so the 950 would be doing good to have 60ft-lbs. at the crank.

You are making NO sense at all, the power and torque ratings are ALWAYS higher at the crank than at the wheel..... unless it has 110%efficiency in converting its engine rpms into wheel rpms without losing any power

I wonder as well, because it does specifically only say 188 lbs. Not ft-lbs. so even at the crank, I have no idea how they are measuring this.

Needless to say, I probably haven't been on this forum in a year, and haven't really looked at whats new other than seeing that 800 polaris when it came out. I walk into a dealership today because I've got time to kill and see this thing in the 2008 brochure. Wow. Years ago when Yamaha skipped the 500 series altogether and dropped the 600 Grizzly, we were thinking it was huge. Kawasaki put out their 650 and we wondered when they would stop. This is just ridiculous. I wonder what the MSRP will be on it? Because I'd probably have to find a job closer to home if I was ever in the mindset to buy one.

And at 719lbs or whatever it is, its actually less weight than a few others. Also, I saw that 700 diesel too. Hmm, Polaris tried that and if flopped big time. I'm guessing with the 2 up and utility bed options this one seems a little more feasable than just a regular 4wheeler with a diesel engine.

A lot has changed since me and my buddy's were terrorizing the town on TRX and MOTO-4 200's.
