Default 07 400 Auto Noisy Drive train?

I picked up the 07 400. Put about 30 rough miles on it yesterday. I totally love it. The ground clearance is amazing.

I have a couple questions you guys can probably help me with:

1- WHen I'm driving over rough terrain the drive seems really noisy and clunky. This is much like my old 300. Is this normal. I can hear it when I rock it forward and backwards. Could it be something else?

2- Where is a good place to buy frame protection? I didn't see any from Arctic Cat on line?

3- Does anyone have a recommendation for Tire Pressure? The book calls for 5lbs.
thanks

that noise is normal. thats is just backlash in your pinnion. what type of frame protection are you reffering to. i highly recomend leaving the stock skids on there better than metal. they slide over obstacles better. and i run 7lbs but if it calls for 5 go for 5 but up to 7 is ok.

i much prefer the plastic skid imo its superior to metal it doesnt dent its slippery so it slides over rocks etc. the diamondplate type look nice but for the cost of a metal one after you puncture it with a rock versus the plastic one just isnt worth it in my book. but to each his own. i will tell you this though do the carb slide and carb slide spring mod very nice improvements. the carb slide mod is you drill out the slide hole on the carb slide to 1/8 in and it makes the slide open faster providing faster revs and better and snappier throttle responce. also the spring mod is similiar in its results it will make the slide open faster. so you can clip up to 6 coils off the carb spring. the 2 mods together are free and make a very nice difference. i can get you a link with pics if your interested in doing these mods.

yeah, if you rock crawl or climb over trees, the stock skid plate is 99% better than any metal. the steel just gets dented and gets hung up on rocks easier. my skid plat is beat to hell, ive even got bolts that have broke off but the plate is working great.

I agree that the plastic skid plate is better. I know a guy who bought the steel ones and hated it then went back to the stock plastic.

Hey there. I don't have an 07, but I do have an 06 400 and I must say that I'm glad someone else has brought up the clunking noise. I've heard it and always wondered what it was. It doesn't sound absolutely horrible, to the point where you think something is broke, but it is noticeable.

As for protection, I concur with everyone else's consensus; the plastic plate is great! I don't do much rock climbing, though the trails that I go on are in the timber in rocky areas and I've had not troubles with it whatsoever. I too looked into buying different protection, but I said no way on the cost.

Finally, tire pressure. I posted a while back a question on this and Buckaroo told me to try 5 in front, 8 in back, and lowering the front shocks to their lowest setting. I did that and really like the handling characteristics of my wheeler! More or less though, it's more of a feel thing so experiment a bit and see what works for ya!
