2003 400 auto 4x4 half shaft removal
I recently broke the right rear half shaft on my quad I was able to pull the half shaft out by pulling out the inner CV joint (the part with the ball bearings) away from where it is supposed to be attached to. However the new half shaft I have has the part where the inner CV joint sticks into already installed, so my question is how to I remove that part from the diff?

im confused. if you have a whole new half shaft, to replace it remove the brake caliper assembly, and the upper and lower A-arms. you should now have the broken half shaft hangin there (depends on where it broke.) to remove it out of the rear diferential, pull on it,hard! yank it if needed. there is a snap ring on the end of the shaft holding it on. this maybe a tough thing to do, my friend just tried his 2 days ago and cant get it off. ive replaced 2 on mine and they both just popped right of with little effort. now with it out, pop the new one in, i use a wooden block and ahammer/rubber malet to pop the new one in. then put the rest back together. this whole process is about a 30-45 minutes. (well, after you do it once). i hope this helps. kinda hard to explain sometimes.

Ok so I don't have to go inside the gear case and remove the C-clip? When I took it off I was able to remove the ball bearing part of the CV joint but I left the CV housing attached to the gear case. When putting the half in do I leave the C-clip on and Just hammer it into the gear case?
