my 400 is leaking gas out of the bowl drain.
had it cleaned and float checked.
seems to leak after taking it off the trailer after towing. i turn the fuel off while trailer.
any opinions

Your needle seat could be leaking. Could also be that your trailer splashes the fuel out of the bowl while towing. As long as it does not do it while it is siting it is not s huge problem as long as it does not go through the carb and into the cylinder. Then it will seep around the rings and get into the oil and can take out the lower engine bearings.

could this also be from the drain screw not sealing. when i turn off the gas it does not do this. i know that the overflow and the float drain, drain out of the same place, since the carb was just cleaned and float checked

It could be from the drainscrew not sealing. It could also be one of a couple of small O-rings on the jets and the needle seat.
If the float is stuck open then when the fuel valve is on it will flow the same as if the drain screw did not seal.
Bottom line is it should not do it. You may need to take the carb a part again and re-check that the needle and needle seat are not damaged or that there is no junk in it.
