Default Winch problem

I have a '97 454 Bearcat with a warn winch. I recently was plowing the driveway and attempted to lower the plow but the toggle didn't work, I can't release any cable. The toggle that operates the winch works fine when I retract cable. I replaced the toggle switch and still same result. Before I start ripping out wires I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem. Appreciate any help!

Default Winch problem

I would try to switch the wires at the selenoid. Then if it only goes down and not up then it is probably the selenoid. Warn did have a recall on their Selenoid a year or so ago.

New selenoid is about $50 if my memory is correct. You can switch the two wires at the winch and then try the switch again as the wires on the winch are the easiest to get at.

My selenoid quit working in one direction (out going) then a short time later it quit taking line in as well. I attributed mine to overuse so I fixed on my dime then I found out about the recall.

Thanks SwampyJunior.

I will try switching the wires on the solenoid to see if the problem is the solenoid.

Check connections at winch motor and solenoid for corrosion and rust and reassemble with some dialectic grease.

After, switching wires I did determine that the right solenoid was not operating.

I spoke with a person at Warn and he talk me into buying a upgrade for the A2000 winch,it uses connectors instead of solenoids(also comes with a rocker switch) found on ebay for $99.00. He said the two solenoid version that I have was probably meant for trucks and didn't know that they were used in the ATV market.

Anyway, I certainly appreciate all the help!
