I would rather have screws too, but I want it to match, thats why I called it being ridiculous . One more quick q, do you need a special tool to install them?

Try this link they have everything you'll need to replace the missing parts. fender rivets as far as needing a tool you may need a flat blade screwdriver to get the old ones out but you shouldn't need anything to replace them.

I went to a stationary shop and got big headed color coated aluminum book screws to replace lost or damaged ones on all my bikes. They work well and can be painted to match if the color is off. A couple of flat tip screw drivers are all you will need and they have a large flat head.

Those fasteners are meant to give or pop off if there is to much strain on them. Doing so keeps the plastic from cracking. You can replace them with steel/aluminum hardware but now instead of these relatively cheap fasteners breaking, your plastic is going to break/crack.

This is very true! It's a trade off of what you really want. I am very happy with the results and haven't busted any plastic yet. I have had these on two of my five bikes for over three years and do not plan on replacing them, even though I definitely agree with you and the potenial to do damage.
