Just bought an 2004 AC 250 4X4
Just bought a 2004 250 4X4. The thing looks to be in great shape, starts right up. Looks like the previous owner maintained it, etc. . I paid $1,400 for it, so I think I got a good deal. Anybody know if I can buy an oil filter at NAPA for this also any specific type oil you guys use?

If i'm not mistaken your 2004 AC 250 4x4 has a Suzuki engine with the oil filter is an internal filter that you have to remove a small aluminum cover on the right side of the quad
it had 3 cap bolt's to remove to get the cover off to get the filter out , the filter is a small round paper type filter one end has a hole for the oil to flow through the filter and allow the oil the oil circulate through the oil cooler the other end is sealed ; when you pull the cap /cover pay attenion to witch direction the filter goes into the case there's a spring that put's pressure on the filter .
If you put the filter in backward's the oil won't circulate if memory serve's me right the sealed end of filter goes in toward the engine with the open end and spring face's toward the aluminum cover !
So i don't think you could find this type filter at NAPA the same filter fit's Honda and Suzuki , i owned a 86' Honda TRX350 Foreman and a 1993 Suzuki LT4WD KQ i found a deal on ebay for 10 filter's for $9.95 with free shipping ; the AC 400 and up have spin on type automotive filter's as for type of oil i've alway's used Castrol GTX Conventional oil 10w40 in winter and 20w50 in the summer and have never had any problem with clutch slipage !
Other member's on the forum use a synthic oil's that are wet sump compatible oil's like AMSOIL and other brand's that are wet sump safe for motorcyle/ATV's , it's personal choice ; i hope's this help's i've seen your post since you first posted and i was surprized that any other member had answered since i've started the ball rolling someone else will probally offer their 2 cent's goo luck.

Thanks for the information, you are correct it is an internal filter. But I did find the oilfilter at NAPA. Have not changed the oil yet, but I went ahead and bought the Valvoline ATV oil 20-40w for wet clutches. There does not seem to be alot of threads on the 250/300. Maybe they just don't have issues!

If you want to pay more $ and depending on how or where you ride synthetic oil may be a good choice for you. About 2 years ago I started using the Valvoline ATV oil in 2 of my machines that had dino oil in them. I like the Valvoline ATV oil mainly due to price. I buy a coupe of cases at a time and get the stuff for just under $3.00 a quart.
So far I have had no problems and have put about 3000 miles on the engines with that oil. I do not remember for sure or not but is the oil filter a paper filter or is it the copper mesh you can clean an reuse?
Also, check into buying bulk filters OR oil could save you some $.

I had been using Castrol GTX Oil since the late 60's in my Automobile's and motorcycle's , i still use the same oil in my 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS Auto 4x4 it's powered by Suzuki's 376cc Engine and Suzuki's Duramatic belt driven clutch and never had a problem with this oil ; i've tried to find the Castrol Synthetic , Valvoline Synthetic ,; and some of the other Synthetic blend's that are wet sump safe but i can't find the stuff at auto parts stores in my home town !
Before i almost forgot your question about the oil filter swampyjunior , it's a paper disposible filter ; hope this help's you tex599 and take care when you're on the trail's tex599
there's nothing i'd like better than to meet you guy's out riding as long as it's not in a crash and i doubt we'll be able to meet unless you can come to Northwest Ga.
have a good one to all !
