Default 04 500 Clunking Noise in front end

I just posted about my CV boot being torn so I can imagine that might have something to do with it. When I am going uphill I notice a clunk, clunk, clunk noise , almost like popping. Perhaps I have damaged my bearing but when I move the axle in all directions and spin the right front tire while lifted everything feels and sounds fine.

Looking for some suggestions. It happens in 4x4 or 2 wheel drive.

Thanks! : )

Two things also come to mind to check.
1) Upper & Lower ball joints. They are are usually either very difficult to or not able to lube and wear quickly if driven in water and mud. To check put the front end up on a jack stand and lift the tire straight up and down.

2) The same test could also tell you if the shock absorber rubber bushings are worn. When you lift up and down on the tire while it is in the air look to see if there is movement and where it is at.

My guess is the shock bushings. They are cheap and easy to replace.

Hope this helps.

I have ordered them from my local dealer and fabricated some out of some hard plastic material used for skids on boat trailers.

I have not been able to get either to last more than about 3 years. Last ones I got I ordered from a place called GreaterYamaha.com out of Florida. Great place fast orders low prices.

Make sure you order 4 bushings per shock and I think I paid like $25 with shipping. If you look on the internet you may be able to find some needle bearing replacements. I saw some from AllBalls.com and I may try them next.

I haul lots of stuff on mine and that combined with the weight of the machine they can go out fairly fast.
