Speedometer displays wrong speed

Speedometer displays wrong speed
Tried to search this info, but no luck.
Purchased a new used digital speedometer and it is displaying the wrong speed and racking up my mileage like crazy.
Can any suggest how I can correct this problem. Not sure if my machine would have a sensor that might be bad....
The original display was part analog and digital the new display is digital only.
I have a 2006 Arctic Cat 500 FIS.
