2003 Arctic Cat 400 4x4 overheats after riding

My 2003 AC 400 4x4 will just shut down after riding it for less than an hour. I have to let it cool down for 30 mins. before it will start again. What is the problem?

give your rad a good rinse out with the garden hose. even dust packs in their and clogs things up.. i was overheating the last ride and gave teh rad a good rinse and was surprised by how much came out. I clean mine after every run but guess i missed a few sections.

The 2003 Arctic Cat 400 4x4 has an oil cooler, not a water filled radiator. It looks like a radiator but contains oil. I opened the drain at bottom of rad. but very little oil dripped out. There is no cap at top of rad. When I check oil level w/dipstick it reads full. What am I missing ? Also it won't start. Replaced battery, it just turns over slowly and stops. This is with brand new, fully charged battery.

Oil cooler wont usually have much oil, just circulates and goes back to the engine sump. Try the basics first, like valve adjustment, air filter clean/replace,check that you're getting good fuel supply, new plug.Plus might throw in a compression check. If all that's ok,could be an electrical component breakdown when it gets hot. That's where a good service manual comes in handy.Plus not familiar with this model, but if it has a starter clutch, could be the sprague gear is galling up if it spins slower while trying to start.Or worst case scenario, the piston is starting to seize when it gets hot. Again the manual can keep you from chasing your tail.

Petty hard to over heat a air cooed motor , even the oil cooler is a assist device which is bullet proof in its simplicity.
You might have a ignition coil failing once it gets hot , I had that happen.
