Default 2000 arctic cat 500 automatic voltage regulator

while looking over my new to me arctic cat 500 I noticed the wiring harness going from the atv to the rectifier had a couple wires that were cut and then connected together with a butt connector. Why would someone do this? I have the carburetor off now because it was acting like it wasn’t getting enough fuel but now I’m wondering if the wiring I just saw on the volt regulator has anything to do with it.

i look forward to any info! Thanis!

Either a bad repair, or they replaced the rectifier and did a crappy job with the wiring.
