Well, Scott told me that these are the kevlar boot guards that Yamaha has been selling as an accesory since around 1996. I'm thinking about seeing if I can afford a set to test. If they fit my cat then I'll realy start pushing them to everyone over here.

About the 2002, I saw a 2002 400 4x4 and 250 4x4 today. MANNNNNNN I think it might be time that I get a new one. The things that you can't see in the pictures is what I'm realy impressed with.

Anyway, I'll try to make a full post about them tomorrow.

Mine will be in tomorrow, I hope I get off in time to go pick it up. If not Sat. for sure.
Yes I like the small stuff too like the marine grade electrical connections, new front diff the woozit sticks straight up, and the headlights they look like they will be really bright. I don't know about the reverse lever on the left side that will take some getting used to. It sure has a lot more ground clearance than my old one, It will be even better with my 27" 589s.
Well I'll let you all know about it when I get some time on it.

With the ACT rear suspension, you are looking at 2" more clearance for the 2002 model than the 2001 in all places but the diff, but the rear diff still has more than the 2001 because the dunlops actually measure a 1/2" taller than the old Titians.

mudcat47537, If you are stuck on buying an Arctic Cat, ignore this post, but if you want an automatic that can really handle the water, consider the Kawasaki Prairie 650. They have moved the gas tank behind the seat and the air filter is where the gas tank used to be. The intake for the belt housing is as high as you can put one, and with the air filter as high as it is, it can handle water deeper than probably any machine---plus they say the center of gravity is lower than any other machine, so it has a double advantage. Also the rear brake is a wet clutch built into the swingarm, so it is protected from the elements. Just food for thought.

Had to switch my name from YankeeAutoCat to NYmudder. Hi Arctic Cat guys. I just thought I'd let you all know I bought a Rancher ES. Went with a Honda because I couldn't deal with everything that went wrong with my 500 auto AC. I can say one thing...man my %ss hurts from riding that thing! I miss my ACT suspension! I went on a trail last weekend that we always begin on when riding. It is a large stream bed full of rocks. I used to yawn my way down it on the AC. By the time I got to the bottom of it on my Rancher I needed back surgery! I do like the sporty feel of the Rancher and love the electric shifting - even more so than the auto AC.

Which brings me to why I replied to this message. Auto Vs. manual. It's like Boner said, you have to live and learn sometimes. I can't blame mudcat47537 for his mistake as I did the same thing. Bought an auto, ran into some trouble and couldn't wait to be rid of it. If I wasn't leery about the other things that happened to go wrong with my AC, I'd be looking at an IRS 500 manual too. It would also have to be outstanding for me to switch from the ACT though. I don't care what anyone else says. Until they ride a 500 AC with the ACT suspension a few times, they haven't ridden the best.

the prarie 650 can handle water.......too bad it cant handle rocks. swing arms just dont belong on utility quads...especially 4x4's.

yup.........everyone is telling me that instead of replacing my manual with an ACT auto that i should wait on the irs setup. while ill test drive one, i just dont see it articulating like the ACT. the articulation radius is less than half that of the articulation radius of the ACT.
