Thermostate for 400 AC
#1
Has anyone found a good engine temp gauge for the 400 AC? I just purchased my ATV and I want to know how hot that antifreeze is when I'm riding.
I also want a fan switch that only runs the fan when the engine is hot enough to need it.
Thanks for your advise.

I am not sure who makes the best temp gauge. I know that Highlifter sales a kit. Seems like it was around $100. My brother-in-law works for AutoMeter. They make the gauges for NASCAR. He got me one of their smaller units with a 3/4 read out (meaning that the numbers go 3/4 the way around that gauge). I haven't installed it yet. So I can't give you any temperature readings. I should have it installed within the next few weeks. Summer time is too busy for me. I just work hard and ride hard!!!!
For the fan switch. I have installed an on/off switch. I just turn off the fan when I cross deep river crossings. for me the fan is so quiet I don't even hear it running. It would be nice to have it temperatured sensored. Let me know when you get it done. I would be interested in knowing how you did it.

Grizzlyrules has the High Lifter temperature guage that sells for $89.95. The way his was installed ( you have to cut into a hose to install the sensor-- you can cut into the return or feed hose from the radiator-- its your choice) he is telling me his runs at around 115-125 degrees. So, that HAS TO be from the return of the radiator if you ask me.

There is a reason they removed the temperature switches, they fail. Mine failed causeing my fan to almost never run except for when going up an incline while hot. So,l I had it wired direct and I installed a fan switch later.

They went back to the temp activated switches on the 02 models. I liked it on all the time, but with a switch to turn it off in the deep stuff. The 02's seem to run a lot more ( come on at a lower temp ) than my old 98 did it hardly ever came on.
