New Cat

Corndog is there any ATV out there that you like. If you've had a bad experience with your AC that's one thing. There's bound to be a lemon in every group but to blast the whole line of cats isn’t using your head. I know a lot of people who swear by Polaris, unlike most of the Honda forum.

I, for one, chose very carefully before plonking down a sizable amount of money on anything. I take into account not only what I personally WANT, but also what I need (which is not the same thing). I then do careful comparisons as to what the market is offering, and take test rides when I can.
I did all these things before chosing my ATV (which is the first one I've purchased). I did one thing more, I looked up message boards on the net and saw what the actual owners thought of their vehicles.
One of the things that amazed me about the Cat owners is that with only one discernable exception, every single one of them seemed more than pleased with their choice. There was only one single dissenting voice in the crowd (expressed at more than one forum) and his arguments against the machines seemed childish at best. In fact, I got the impression he was a kid who wanted a Raptor and who's father sensibly bought him a machine he'd be less likely to kill himself on. Surprisingly, this individual seemed to be adult and sensible in his postings on forums for other manufacturers. I then got the impression that he was, in fact, two people using the same screen name.
Nevertheless, this one dissenting negative voice in a crowd of positive acclimations failed to dissuade me from purchasing a 2002 400 4x4. A descision I do NOT regret. I am constantly amazed at what this machine can do! To be honest, the only defective part I've notices on this quad is the driver (me) who seems to think it can climb trees...but that's another story.

I've been watching this thread and was just going to keep to myself but I've changed my mind. Just about everyone I've ever heard of has been more than pleased with Arctic Cat. I have heard some complaints about bad dealers, but that could happen with any make or model. It looks to me like one person in particular (Corndog, for those just tuning in) has 500cc envy. Short and simple here kids, everyone pay attention I don't think anybody expects an Arctic Cat to race the dunes or soar off jumps like a 400EX and nobody expects a 400EX to churn thru thick mud or rock crawl like an Arctic Cat. It's a tough decision to make when you're looking at plopping down $7000.00 for a new machine because each machine has it's pluses and minuses, if you're unhappy with Arctic Cat, sell it, and get over it. I personally don't think there's a bad machine on the market.

I only post bad things in the Arctic Cat forum, and will also tell Grizzly 660 owners the Kawi is faster, cause it is, so it is the same person(me) posting some good ones and some bad ones. Here is what really makes me mad about the AC 250, it doen't have anything it stands out in. It sucks in the mud, it is slow, it claims to pull a lot but can't, and the suspension is okay but not great. It can't beat a Recon in any category, when you tie them together and pull, both the tires dig into the ground. The Recon is also faster, the handling is better, and it is more durable. The AC 250s controls look cheap, and I wasn't surprised when mine fell out after a 3ft jump. The plastic also breaks very easily, my left fender has basically been taken out by stumps, and the green plastic above the right fender has a 9 inch crack in it. I guess the only place were the AC 250 wins is the suspension, but I honestly don't think it is as great as they say.
Oh Yeah! I have been meaning to ask you this: Does the AC 250 have a storage box? I don't think it does, and that doesn't make sense. There is so much extra space in that quad it is stupid, they could at least give it a huge storage box. The 2002 Recon has a storage box, I'm not sure about the previous models. Went to the dealers today and had to pay $12.99 for a stupid little bulb for the light! Is that the regular price?
Anybody know of anyways to make my AC 250 a little faster? Either acceleration or top end is good!

Okay, try to make yourself more clear next time. I see that the AC 250 DOES NOT COME WITH A STORAGE BOX. Oh yeah, and it is $4500 when you add tax and a winch with all of the mounting supplies. I didn't even want the quad, my dad just went with my uncle and bought it. My uncle is really stupid, and the way he makes himself feel smart is by screwing other people. My dad was originally going to get an AC 300 4x4, which would not be so bad because of the 4x4. My uncle talked him into the AC 250, and said we did not need 4x4. OKAY GET THIS, WE LIVE IN FL, AND I RIDE IN THE SWAMP. THERE IS NO PLACE FOR A 545 LBS. (DRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 2X4 IN THE SWAMP!!!! NO PLACE!!!!!!! MY UNCLE THOUGHT IT WAS SO FUNNY until we were fishing in his $85,000 Grady White and I took a weight on the end of the line and smashed it against the side of his boat. Luckily it left a huge gash, and I told him it was cause what he did about the 4 wheeler. IT FELT SO GOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.....AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! !!

corndog,
don't look a gift horse in the mouth man. try to sell the 250. i know where you are coming from on the fact that a heavy 2wd quad with low displacement would simply be an anchor in a swamp. before i purchased my autocat 500 i rode a bayou 300 2wd and i didn't like it b/c it lacked power and when you got stuck you were stuck and thank God it weighed as much as it did b/c i could lift it out by hand. i'm an uncle and i do like to pick on my nephews. maybe your uncle just likes to make your life hell and maybe he's just a big ********; however, he may have picked such a slow and cumbersome quad to keep you from killing yourself and others. by the way how old are you if you don't mind me asking? my nephews range from 3 to 20 years old and the 20 year olds have polaris 500s (sportsman/magnum) so i cannot pick on them too much b/c they can easily outrun me in a dragrace. all i can say is i paid for my cat and they were given theirs. tell ya what, sell the 250 save a little money here and there and buy another quad of your choice. if that doesn't work, begin treating your uncle with the respect his title deserves and maybe he will upgrade you to a beefier quad.
that's my two cents.
just take a step back, cool down a little, and stop using all caps 'cause i think you blew my eardrums with all that shouting.
as per the last issue in dirt wheels where they compared the kawi 650 and the grizzly 660, the kawi could beat the grizzly off the line but that lead was short lived because the grizzly would catch up to the kawi midrun.

Corndog,
Assuming your sob story is true (and I've no reason to doubt it), your behaviour is still out of line. Because you appear to have the wrong machine for your conditions you blast ALL Arctic-Cats? Where is the logic in that?
That would be like TexasCat (just picking names based on location) saying ALL Polaris Snowmobiles suck because his 120 XC SP (kid's sled) can't haul him through the hills (get a lot of snow there, TexasCat?). Or it would be like UtahRancher saying that ALL Lund boats stink because his 16 Rebel (fishing boat) does not work well in Moab (lot of lakes there, Utahrancher?).
You may have the wrong piece of equipment for your particular situation but that does NOT make the manufacturer or even that one particular model ATV bad. It only means you are trying to hammer a nail with pliers.
