Boner, I noticed in another post that you recieved the new 2002 manuals. Can you tell me what the main size is for the new 400 4x4. You and I conversed on this awhile back and you had mentioned that you thought the new carb had an accelator pump. But I don't think this will effect the main size from a wide open stand point, I am not sure though. I am sure that my main is to large as it is a 150 and the 500 uses a 145. Any help would be appreciated as I am doing lots of work on my carb, new needle shapes and sizes etc.

Thanks Jim

Well I know that the accelerator pump does have an effect on the main jet. I know SwampMonster had to go down big time on his main jet when he went to a carb with an Accelerator pump.

I'll try to check out the new 2002 service manual we got in tomorrow to get you your specs. Been trying to get a glance at it but we have been REALLY busy lately so it may take a while.

Boner, I hope you get a chance to look at the specs this week. I tried the needle on the leanest setting but the bike would not take the throttle without a stumble, once it started to rev it worked great. I did the 90 second spark plug test and this confirmed the lean condition. I wa suprised that the plug could change to gray so quick. I moved the needle back to the number three position [factory] but I think I will try number 4. Do you know how big the change is when dropping one jet size? Mine has a 150 main according to the manual, and I think I am going to try a 149. I think as long as I check the plug after running steady at wide open and then again at 1/2 throttle and reading the plug I should be OK. What do you think?

Cheers Jim

You were right, but there is a problem. They have 2 completely different carburators so the jetting will not be interchangeable.

The 2002 400 is jetted just like teh 2001 500 specs you gave me. But the reason is because of the different carbs that are not even made by the same company.
