To the most knowledgable group,

I would like to put hand warmers on my new quad, but how do you get the old ones off? These grips look like they are glued on! Anybody done that...been there? I hate to wreck the perfectly good grips just getting them off.

Any and all help appreciated.

There is a pop rivet on the bottom side, you need to drill this out first. Then just twist you may need to put a heat gun on it for a while to losen the glue up. Make sure you put a new pop rivet back in when you put them back on.

I found if you have access to an air compressor that after removing the pop rivet if you blow in one end of the handle bar (don't forget to plug hole in centre) the other grip will come off with a little twisting. Lubricate the inside of the grips when putting back on and they slide on pretty easy.

I just put a set of hot grips on last weekend. Mudcat's right use a heat gun then start twisting the end until the whole grip breaks free from the glue. Drill out the rivet or pull the rubber over it. The grip slides off easier if you can get your fingers behind the flare and pull straight back. Hot grips require a slow setting epoxy so don't drill and put a rivet or you'll ruin the heating element. The wiring takes time. I mounted my switch in the housing that holds the indicator lights, it will fit. I found a rubber boot at Radio Shack that waterproofs the switch. Be sure to solder all connections or this will come back to haunt you. I used silicone sealant to waterproof all the connections.

These are wonderful! The grips will dryout your gloves on high. I wish they made a seat too!

Check out Dennis Kirks Snowmobile catalog. They have seat warmers.
