Today I decided to address a couple of problems I have been having with my 2002 400i AC. Thanks to this forum I had a pretty good idea of what to do.

My first problem was a kind of grinding, scraping, or squeeking noise from the wheels....especially when turning sharp. I took the wheels off, and sure enough there were wear marks on the inside of the rim, dead center, from the axles. This was front and rear. I took a flat file to the ends of the axles and removed a bit of metal, and also greased the ends of the axles....no more noise.

Second problem was that Da#@ed heel toe rocker shifter. I have ridden motorcycles with these shifters for a few years now, but never mastered the Artic Cat shifter. My 13 year old daughter likewise had a terrible time upshifting. I noticed this problem was worse when riding double as my old ankles don't seem to work at that angle. I did order the single lever shifter, but it is not here yet and I may just cancel it altoghter. I had some old heavy duty rubber from mud flaps so I cut two thicknesses of pads to fit over the rear or heel part of the shifter. I drilled 4 small holes just in from center of the four edges and used cable ties to attach to the shifter. I was amazed at the immediate difference and wish I had done so sooner.

Hope this helps someone else.

Put thick grease on the axle shaft ends and you won't have anymore troubles.

On my wife's 300 we couldn't get a standard shifter. So we hacked off the heel part, adjusted the front up so her foot will fit under it, and then took a piece of a big rubber hose and covered the toe shifter. She likes it a lot more.
