I have heard that suzuki engines are not that powerful. Or is it that they are just geared high? I rode a king quad and they had no power in high gear. When you hit the gas it would bog down. My friends arctic cat 300 looses lots of speed going up hills. Maybe it is just because there 300dreds. My old honda 200 passes them on hills. does anyone know?

 

It,s not the engine it's the 600 lbs they need to move.I own a Honda 300 and a Arctic Cat 300. You cant tell the two apart in performance, but my old 185s will beat them
both.

 

If Suzuki engines are so weak, how come my 493cc Arctic Cat 500 (which has a Suzuki engine) has more torque than a 595cc Yamaha Grizzly. I'm not saying Yamaha makes weak engines, look at the Banshee. I'm just saying Suzuki is not weak. I think Honda has the weakest engines of the industry. Look at the Dynojet.com graphs. The 450 has 11.9 rear wheel Horsepower while a Polaris 335 has 13.6.

Given the similarity of design (four-stroke, single-cylinder, OHC, ~= 32mm carburetor, ~= 9:1 compression ratios, etc.) among the many 300cc utility quad manufacturers, I'd expect only marginal differences in engine performance among them.

Suzuki holds many motorcycle race trophies; the firm's engineers obviously know how to make small engines run and run well.

Riding the Cochranton, PA, Poker Run in company with a King Quad, the machine seemed quite capable in its class to me, negotiating hills/mud/long straight country roads well within the pack. (I will perform additional field research at the Marienville, PA, "Tour de Forest" next weekend!)

Certainly, Force divided by Mass equals Acceleration; I don't think Suzuki is any slouch in the Force department, and the King Quad possesses considerable mass (as do other utility quads). I know of no systemic reason why a Suzuki engine would produce less power than another engine of similar design and displacement.

I just brought a new '99 King Quad home last weekend and didn't think it was short on power. Even with the extra weight, you have the high, low, and super low transmission to select from...plus standard 4wd or differential lock.

To me the only other 300cc macine with more flat out acceleration to me is the Polaris, but then you're looking at extra noise, rough idling, and reliability issues.

That's my two cents.

 

There is no shortage of power, torque or acceleration, on my KQ.

Just another two cents for the pot.

Which 300 Polaris has rough idling , and reliability issues? My Xplorer has been the best running machine I have owned. I have owned a 300 Honda 4x4 and a Yamaha Warrior and bought them all new and the most reliable one so far has been my Polaris, Still not getting were these "reliability issues" are coming from with Polaris? Look through some of the posts on here seems like allot of people with all makes of ATVs are having mechanical failures of some sort or another. I would not trade my Xplorer for both of my previous quads.

Not all Suzuki engines are weak. My Arctic Cat 454 has a Suzuki engine in it, and has no loss for power. It will outrun any utility honda on the road any day. I Have taken it up steep hill in 5th gear no problem. If anything it needs a wind out gear because it feels like it could go faster when it's pegged in 5th. One of my cousins has a AC300 and It does not have any power for some reason. It can't go up anything hardly, and I'm not talking about go up it fast I mean it won't go up it. I know I haven't had any problem like that out of my 454. In reply to XEPathfinder's post there are definetly not as many problems with the Arctic Cats as there are on the Polaris forum. No wheres near it.

Try changing the range when going up a hill. A 300 in superlow 1st gear can pull amost as much as a 500.
