I need to what you did to install the fan overide switch. I know where the fan and heat sensor connects at "right at the fan" But i need to know which wires are what,a nd the steps to take.

I want to be able to flip my toggle switch on and the fan will come on and at the same time keep my high temp sensor working,

I want to be aboe to turn the fan on and off when ever i please.. Thank for you info

The only wires you need to splice are the 2 that are on your sensor. Use a scotchlock or whatever you prefer, connect a wire from one of the sensor wires and the other end to one of the terminals at the manual switch. Connect a second wire from the other wire on the sensor and connect the other end to the other terminal at the manual switch. The switch you need is a single pole single throw on/off switch.

Wiring this way you are just bypassing the temp sensor with your manual switch but if you have the manual off and your machine gets hot, the temp sensor will do its job and turn the fan on.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

Just a clarification: You are just tapping into the 2 wires at the sensor, You don't want to cut them from the sensor.

CatK--Look by your left front tire (left as in sitting on the wheeler) at the radiator. The sensor is at the inside bottom corner. There are 2 red wires coming off of it going up in a wire loom. They will go up about 6 inches and then come out of the loom. One wire will go up under the dash and the other will go into a plug-in connector that feeds the fan motor. Use 2 blue half tap connectors, the kind that crimps on the wire without cutting it in half (Autozone). The connector will have 2 slots for wires. One is a pass-through and one is an insert and stop. Put the sensor wires in the pass through side so you don't cut them in half. You will want to use the connectors between where the loom ends and the plug in connector. You will need 2 pieces of wire from your switch to the connectors. Simply connect one wire from the switch to one red sensor wire and the other switch wire to the other red sensor wire using the connectors. Use a cheap switch (again Autozone). I used an on/off-3prong led light type switch ($2.99), it lights up when the switch is in the on position, but any on/off switch will do.

When in the on position the switch simply shorts across the sensor, makes the circuit think the sensor is closed and the fan will run. When in the off position, the circuit will work as normal, the switch will not affect it at all, the fan will run in auto mode.

3 more things, 1-When going into deep water you must remember to put the switch in the auto/off position because you will burn the fan up if its trying to run in deep water. 2-Silicon the connectors that are on the sensor wires. They will corrode very quickly and eat the sensor wires in half. 3-the switch can not handle any mud or water. Place it up as high and dry as possible. I put mine on my intake snorkel and use heat shrink to keep the water out.

You know, you'd never guess I have a degree in Electronics.

Hey Cat Krazy,

From reading your original question I think you also want the ability to turn the fan off whenever you want to, in addition to being able to turn it on.

I ain't no electricle enjunear but I'm pretty sure the advice you got tells you how to turn the fan on at any time, but won't let you turn it off.

I'm not much help, telling you that it won't do what you want it to do, without being able to tell you how to make it do what you want it to do.

If you want to have full control of the fan simply take the sensor out of the circuit. Instead of tapping into the sensor wires, cut them off. I wouldn't recommend that in case you forget to turn it on you could overheat the engine and not realize it.

Is there a reason why you wouldn't just splice a toggle switch into the power wire going to the fan motor??

will have to run a long hot wire ground,in line fuse, wouldnt you. Im sure it would work, but getting the wires back to the battery and fuse box would be tough
