BIG CAT!!!!

I need to know if everytime you change just your gear case housing, do you have to re shim the pinion gear.

Ive got the formulas for calculating the shim process but im worried about the pinion gear. if i have to re shim because of the new housing i cant build my diff before the weekend. if i dont have to reshim well then im set!

If you can give me any information pertaining to the shimming process for ther front gearcase and pinion

Thanks

Hi, CatKrazy your are not going to believe this. It just tells you how to remove and install the differential. It doesn't tell how to take it apart. But in the troubleshooting it says if the gears/pinions are broken or damage [ replace the gears/pinions]
It gives you no specifications. So they must all be machined the same. On my truck the back lash is .08 thou. and the side play is .oo thou. and add .04 thou to each side, now that tight. Wonder if its the same?????
I Payed $74.00 canadian for this manual and it tell you nothing about the diff. I feel like I got ripped off, But does go into a lot of detail on the engine and transmission.
Sorry I wasn't much help.

CatKrazy, I checked the part list and it gives you 5 different Ring Gear shim sizes and 5 different pinion shim sizes. But no specs. on setting up the gears.

Hey Guys.. noticed two fellow Nova Scotians posting replies so i thought i would ask where you bought your cat's and if they treat you well in terms of service and warranty. I am getting a trailer hitch and trailer hopefully this week and then i will be buying my 500 AC. I hope to be riding by Easter weekend. Maybe I will see you on the trails?

i got the specs in today. and i fixed it.

The new ring gear was put in the new housing and the back lash and side to side play matched perfectly!!!

Yes all of them are machined the same! god i was lucky. Also all the housings "outer" was the same. the shims are ther for wear. the ones in my bike were 1.5mm on both sides. the pinion was 1.3. the way i understand it is when you start getting alot of wear or if you have to much play they are available!

also you must have a micometer
