Question about 2002 400i

Hey guys,
I've recently bought a 2002 400i 4x4. Absolutely love it. I've got a great dealer as well. When I went to actually purchase the quad the owner wasn't there (at a hunting expo) so I talked to his office worker who didn't seem to know whether to scratch his watch or wind his butt. Anyway, I asked him any differences between the 2003 400 4x4 and the 2002 400 4x4 (overstock from last year). One of the things he told me was that the 2002 does not have 4 adjustable shocks and it's only liquid cooled (no fan). Well my kitten has adjustable shocks and a thermostat controlled fan.
So, was the guy wrong or do the quads come with options? I know you can buy a aftermarket fan, but aren't the 02 factory equipped with one?
Thanks,
Nate

Thanks vewdew.
Another question: How do you adjust the daggum front shocks? When I got the quad, both the front and the rear were on the second softest setting. Well, I moved both to the softest setting just to see how it handled. It was fine for the rough trails I rode but seemed to be too unstable feeling (slight body roll feel) for regular trails. So anyway, I had to jack the rear end up to take the weight off the suspension in order to raise the setting on the rear shocks. That didn't work for the front shocks though (the dang notches are too steep to twist around the locking peg).
So is there some secret to adjusting the front shocks? Besides dismantling the entire front suspension.
Thanks

The '02 400i uses a 371cc liquid cooled engine. This is NOT the same engine as the '02 375 (and all the newer 400's) which are Air and Oil cooled 376cc engines. Basically, if your engine has fins, it's the 376cc one, otherwise it's the 371cc, which is basically (I believe) a destroked 500 engine.
I can't help you with the shock issue, both our '02 Cat's have the non-adjustable shocks. I have managed to adjust the shocks on my kids SP90 (similar to most 5-setting preload adjusting shocks) with a big 'ole pipe wrench. Try at your own risk.

Best thing about the ATV wedding is that it was HER idea. Now we're trying to get two more machines as a sort of "wedding present" to each other. Hopefully there will be a Raptor (LE with the red flames) and a 300ex added to my signature soon.
EDIT: Well, noone had Raptor's in, so I switched to the Predator. What a blast this thing is!

I also have a 2002 4x4 400i Manual, although I purchased mine last September. I absolutely love it.
I'm sure this is not an exhaustive list, but this is what I noticed, and what my dealer told me:
Late build 2002's were equipped with some of the 2003 parts as they became available on the production line. So the "later" 2002's may, I repeat, may have:
4-way adjustable shocks, front and rear (on mine, also came with adjustment wrenches)
steel braid brake lines (on mine)
plastic master cylinder (mine is old style metal)
large rear storage box (my original was small, but later I installed the large)
no gear selector lights at console (mine has all gear indicator lights)
gray painted steel wheels (on mine)
new ball-joints (part of Recall campaign)
I'm fairly certain that all 2002's came with the water cooled engine.
As far as adjusting the shocks, I recommend taking the shock off the quad, compress the spring, then turn the spool. There is no way to turn the spool without compressing the spring.

Thanks DirtDoc!
Mine is definately a 2002 and has all of the stuff you listed so I guess it was part of the late 02 production. That sucks about having to take the shock off the quad to adjust the front suspension, but I guess it's a "necessary evil" (as opposed to the shock being so easy to adjust that it adjusts itself when you hit a hard bump).
Pechmial, sounds like your lady has a good head on her shoulders coming up with the idea of an Atv wedding and all. Sounds like a keeper!
Thanks for the help guys!
