Performance mods for a 200es engine?
#1
I recently bought an engine off of a ATC200es that I'm putting on an off-road go-kart that is much like an Odyssey. I chose this engine because it has shaft drive, electric start, high and low ranges, reverse and a clutchless 5-speed. Eventually I will want to do a complete rebuild and will want to use performance parts where feasible.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? I have already picked up a Super Trap exhaust and I'll be rebuilding the carb when the parts come in.
What type of performance should I expect from the 200es engine as far as hill climbing and top speed are concerned.
Thanks!

You made a good choice on the engine you picked. I have a 1984 200es atc and I rebuilt my engine. I reccamend boring it out and putting a wiseco piston in with 10.25:1 compression ratio. THis really picked up my engine. I could hit 56 with my atc and pass any 4x4 on the trail. With the 10.25:1 ratio you will have to burn premium pump gas to keep it from spark nocking.
P.S. When you get all the mods done run a good synthetic oil. And if you run this engine hard let it cool at times. The air cooled motor will get hotter faster with these performance mods.
