Seat buckled up

Seat buckled up
I have a 84 ATC 200x. The seat is in great shape but it is buckled up about 2 1/2 inches off the tank. Does this happen often? Is there a way to "train" the seat down other than buying an entire new seat? There is no way to adjust the tank back and the rear fender/seat is all the way foward. Thanks
