i know what you mean about yamaha's and hondas. but yamaha's arent bad. 225's are good bikes- we had one and it was indestructible. it was traded on a banshee many moons ago. but that was a nice trike. i would fix it if i were you.

In my opinion, it was the best trike Yamaha built outside of the Tri-Z.
If you look at the engine closely, you will see that it is the same engine used in the 2004 BearTracker
If it's the rear end bearings, they are going to be pricey to replace....especially if the ones in the differential itself are bad. All of the bearings and seals will run you about $200 to $250 depending on your dealer.
While you are bak there, check out the swingarm bearings. Those trikes were prone to premature swingarm bearing failure. The fix? It may sound crazy, but replace those taped Yamaha bearings with bearings sold for the Honda TRX300. Even though they are of the ball bearing type, they are sealed and last longer than the non-sealed Yamaha tapered. You will not be able to use the Honda dust seals with the Honda bearings in the Yamaha, but the Yamaha dust seals will work with the Honda bearings when put into the Yamaha swingarm.
Good luck on your trike

Using aftermarket parts suh as pistons, rings, cam chain, and gaskets....it isn't going to cost you any more to rebuild it than it would be rebuilding a Honda.
Your local dealer should have acess to the aftermarket companies that sell these through the aftermarket. Dealers use more than OEM parts. Yamaha afteramrket engine parts for these trikes aren't carried by guys such as DennisKirk, so going to your dealer for a quote would be a good start.
If you haven't gotten one already, get yourself a repair manual. You will need it when it comes time for your rebuild. It's not a big task even for the first timers, if you have a manual to help you out along the way.

''If you look at the engine closely, you will see that it is the same engine used in the 2004 BearTracker''
Are the parts off the dr and the bear tracker interchangable? Also would the exhaust off a beartracker bolt onto the 225 headpipe too?
