Default big red idle problem

I am new to 3 wheelers. I just got a big red I think it is an 84 200es. when I start it up it idles real high. I have been doing some research and found out the plate that goes over the choke handle is gone. will this make it idle real high. any help is appreciated.

I'm not really sure, but you should first look for a manual for the bike..so you can get the carb adjustment.

hey welcome to the forums...hows your spark plug color look? if its not too black then id say the problem is a stuck throttle cable. every once in a while mine sticks too, it got much better when i sprayed it all down with pb blaster...also, take your seat/airbox lid off, and put you fingers into the carb to make sure the choke plate isnt binding up...(dont do this running) also you can make sure the piston moves up and down freely (in the carb). make sure your air filter isnt plugged, and you should be good to go....nice machine, by the way...great all around

since that plate on the side where the choke handle is gone, it makes the choke plate inside the carb wide open. would that make it idle high. what is pb blaster.
