Honda ATC 110 Carb Problem....HELP
#1
Text Hey everyone this is my first post. I needed some help w/ my 80 honda atc 110. I've done a lot of work to it and it really runs great for about 15 mins then i can't let it idle. Rode it for a few hours last week and did ok just couldn't let it idle. I feel like the carb isn't set right of course so any help would be great!! Thanks.

I would like to say welcome to the ATC forum!!!! I have the settings on most all the trikes but the 110, sorry. There are quite a few guys on here that know the 110 pretty good and will hook you up, I have faith in them!

I don't have my book at home with me right now but I believe that you screw the idle air screw in until it lightly seats and back it out an 1/8 turn. I would think that it is probably valve adjustment though. 110's are notorious for the valves tightening up. At idle it wouldn't have enough compression to run but if you rev it up a little it could overcome the loss of compression. It only takes a minute to check to. Just rotate the engine until the valve you are working on is at zero lift and make sure that you can rattle it up and down just a little. If you can't move it, it's to tight. I am not sure but I think the adjustment is like .010 intake, and .012 exhaust. Hope this helps.

Thanks the valves were adjusted about 2 weeks ago so i don't think that's the problem. I just don't know what the idle and the needle should be set on. The spark plug is black after i pull it out.

The needle generally doesn't affect the idle. the only time it operates is when you press the throttle. Make sure you air filter isn't stoped up and that the choke is working properly. You could try dropping the neddle to lean it out some. Also, the way the idle air screw works is the further you screw it out the leaner you air/fuel mixture. Keep playing with it and you should figure it out.

If adjusting idle speed and mixture screw don't help, try a needle jet set. Includes needle, needle jet, e-clip and retainer. Over time, the needle ovals a hole in the needle jet, and allows too much fuel to leak by it at idle. Symptoms are no need for choke to start (it's already plenty rich), OK idle when cold but worsening as the machine warms up.
