How Much Damage Does A Slipping Clutch Cause
#3
The main cause is wear. If you don't have the clutch adjusted properly so it locks in properly it will speed up this proccess. On a four-stroke the damage can get bad because all the burnt clutch material is now in your oil and your oil pumps through all your major internal components and it reduces the oils ability to lubricate properly and it makes those parts wear faster. It is not as bad on a two-stroke but who wants to ride a bike with a bad clutch. It kinda takes all the fun out of it. They are really easy to replace on manual clutch bikes. Just yank the right side cover and there will be a couple of bolts and springs holding the pressure plate over the clutches. Just remove them and replace the clutches and reinstall the pressure plate, springs, bolts, and side cover. On some auto-clutch trannies you have to remove the centrifigul clutch to gain access to the primary clutch. After you get it off it is pretty much the same as the manual type.

To be honest, I run the cheapest HD30 oil I can find in my banshee and 250R. It has enough lubrication to keep the tranny in good shape but not enough to make the clutchs slip. The stuff I run is called Gold Band.
