I haven't done it but it will be tuff. You will have to take off the rear fenders to start it once you are done because the cr500 engine is rear kick and the 250R is forward kick. The only ones I have seen done like that used the cr500 frame and had a swingarm and wider triple trees made to accept the rear axle along with the wider front wheel setup. When you mount that cr500 in the atc frame you run into problem like getting a pipe to fit. If it were me I would try to get some scales to see where the weight was at before I tore it down. Once you figure out what percent of the weight is where you can go from there. Like if it was 60% in the rear and 40% in the front you would probably want to make it about 50/50 to put a little more wieght on the front keep the wheelie affect to a minimum. I used to have a CR500R dirt bike and it tried to wheelie everytime I twisted the throttle. After you figure out where you want the wieght I would just line up the sprockets. They have to line up so you don't really have any varibles there. The only down side to this swap is that you probably won't be able to ride it for long periods at a time because those CR500's vibrate terribly. You will definatly want to get some rubber mounted handle bars. Those 500's are also a job to crank. Even one off the showroom floor can kick your a$$. Once they are fired up they are very fast. Good luck with your project and if you have any other questions just post em and I will try to help you.

there is no way to move weight around,,,, the motor fits in where the 250 was perfectly,,,, vibrate??? whatever!!! i ride mine all weekend without any problems related to vibration!

to start the install cut the lower 250r mounts off, slip the 500 in on the swingarm bolt slide it all the way over to the countershaft side and ,,,,, BINGO sprockets are lined up,,,, you are on your way,,,, things have to be moved to alow the motor to drop far enough to clear the exahust ,,, you will see that when you get that close,,,,,,,,,,,, good luck!!! ITS WORTH EVERY SECOND OF TIME TO PUT IT IN!!!!! HERE IS MINE ATC500R

Wow, yours looks great. Ok, so first, the lower mounts go right? Then put the swingarm bolt through the hole on the rear of the 500 motor? Or just slide it over ontop of the bolt?

When I had my 500R dirtbike I rode with four other guys who had them also. All of ours vibrated like crazy when you revved em. Even the on that was featured in the magazine had bad vibrations because the guy who built it had one trike and one trx both with cr500 engines in them and he said he loved them but there was no way he could ride either one all day because the vibration caused him so much arm fatigue. Even so, if I had a cr500 engine I would do the swap. Good luck with your swap guy.

Man if i knew these things were gunna be that much of a problem, i'd have just saved another few hundred $$ n got a regular 250r motor n just done it up here n there, lol. Oh well, some people say their motor didnt vib. as bad, but others did, so i dunno. Oh well, i could take the crank out sometime later on n see if teh machinist guy in town could maybe balance it a little more( if possible). If not, oh well, im only buildin the bike like this really for kick everybodys rear's that ride a quad, lol. I just gotta make my point that trikes still rule, lol. ( in my opinion anyhow!lol). I have n extra frame i bought anyway, i'll just buy enough parts to just swap back n forth whenever i wanna. or just buy enough to have my 500r n 250r. Either way, it'll be fun for the time being.
