Default 350x gas tank

The other day i noticed that my fuel tank was leaking along the bottom seem, has this happened to anyone else? also is there anything to fix this. no visable hole, it seems that its just leaking along the seem.where to tank folds under. never had a problem before with this, i know the tank is almost 20 years old so maybe time for new one, any info would be well helped...

I have several tanks like that. The reason this happens (I think) is that condensate (water) settles to the bottom of the tank, and then the seam rusts. I bet if you take a piece of sandpaper to the area around the leaking seam, you will find you can sand holes right in it. I also conjecture that your leak is on the side oppisite the petcock. Again my theory is that the side with the petcock keeps the fuel mixed up some, but the other side the water never goes away. I have a couple of trikes that I have owned for years, and that are stored stood up on the back tires. I have never had problems with there fuel tanks, I think because when I stand them up, the condensate gets mixed in with the other gas.

What we used to do was to fix it with JB weld. Man, it was ugly but it worked. Just cake it on all around the seams where it leaks.
