Default CR500 into ATC250R

Lookin to go ahead with this swap. I know there are a couple other people on here that have done it, anyone know what mods I will be looking at doing to make this motor fit in the frame? Will I have to buy new electrical or will the exsisting stuff work? Will the 250R radiator be enough cooling for the big 500? If not what should I look into getting? Also a buddy of mine that does alot of metal fabing offered to take my stock swing arm and stretch it out, maybe like +4. Is that smart or would it be better to just buy an aftermarket swing arm? Thanks for any input. I just want to know what im gonna be getting myself into here time and money wise.

Hey Bad, Dang! I don't know where you live, but there was a super-clean 250R/CR500 conversion in the Cycle Trader for sale last week in San Diego and I don't see it in this weeks edition. I was going to offer to forward the info to perhaps call the guy. Anyway, Let start with why you want to do this, then perhaps explore counseling as an option.

Hey 344, That is one clean ride! Thanks for your part in helping to keep it alive and real in the "R"-ean nation!"

Thanks for the replys. Yeah 344's ride is definatly SWEET. It is actually my background on my computer at work, hope you dont mind, but I love it. The reason I want to just drop in the 500 engine is because it is just a beast. I would love to go big bore on my exsisting R engine but alot of people tell me that the bottom end wont hold. And I think I can find a 500 engine probobly quit a bit cheaper then what it would cost me to build up my tired 250 engine up to 50-60 dependable horses. How does your bike run 344? Do you have any vids of it? What do you have into your engine and what kinda power is it pushing? I just want to know if the 500 swap is gonna be worth it. There arent many trikes in my area and alot of people talk alot of **** about them around here. I would love to smack all these 450's and rappy's around down at the strip. Any info is always apreciated, help me bring this thing back to life please. Oh and hey Faster, if you have that number let me know. If its a decent price I might be willing to take a look. Thanks again.

I heard the CR500 engine swap into a trike could have bad vibration issues, I have never ridden one myself though.

Yeah, I have heard the same thing... frame cracks, reliability. Ride the whole season without serious maintence..etc... I am a big bore guy like 344 only I'm 310. I used a "CTRacing.com" package (free plug CT guys! remember me when I need a new top end!) They go up to 350 cc on an "R" that is useable and perhaps realistic for reliability. I only went 310 because the other kits needed to have the cases machined which is obviously a permanent commitment. I can tell you though the CT has been awesome! I am on my third season un-touched and the trike fly's on new bikes. I am not familiar with 344's "PV" deal, but if it is even close to CT'S quality it is an option to consider as well.

However, if you want crazy then go for the CR500 option. I have had my butt seriously kicked by a couple of those guys before. (pre 310)If you go that way I support you fully and will tip my hat to you before you walk over me at the hill or drags.

thanks for the complements guys

i personaly dont think the 500 is the way to go you have no lights it vibrates like a bitch. the bigger 350cc or 370cc Pro-x setup's will give you a ton of power. who ever told you the bottom end of the 250R wont hold up with a big bore kit has no idea what they are talking about. take a look at a sabertooth (http://www.saberracing.com) setup they are making a 100hp on gas with a 250R bottom end.

i have seen way more big pro-x setups beat cr500 conversions buy the way.

go get a ESR 350 or 370 & you will have a mean trike.

Thanks for the replys. That sabortooth bike is bad a$$. Now if I decide to go big bore do any of you know where I can pick up a kit alittle cheaper than a 1000 bucks. Thats alittle more than I want to spend on a top end. I can pick up a cr500 engine for probobly 500 bucks. Hey Faster, will that 310 kit in your atc out run your zilla?
