Default Painting Everything but Plastic - Where Do I Start?

Hey Everyone, I just bought a 1984 200x. The frame has very very little rust but has a lot of permentent dirt and is faded. The tank has some chipped off spots and is also not very good looking. All other painted areas are also very faded. What I would like to do is paint the frame, motor and other random peices, but I am not sure how to start. So far I have pressure washed the frame and that is it. I have a sand blaster available to me, but I am not sure if it should be used on the engine. Once it is prepped should I prime and sand, or just prime. And what paint brands do you recomend, how many layers, and clearcoat or any other things.

Thanks, I am 15 and this is my first big project. I really want it to turn out good.

Have you stripped everything off the frame? If so, I would recommend sand blasting it and getting your frame powder coated. If you would rather paint it, definately sand blast it then primer and wet sand after the primer coat before painting, also lightly wet sand between paint coates and first clearcoat application for a smoother finish. I would recommend (depending on the terrain your ride on) at least 3 coates of paint and 2 coats of clearcoat. Remember to let them dry completely before sanding. You can go to an automotive paint store and get some. You can sand blast the engine, BUT make sure all your ports and seal areas are protected, plugged, taped whatever you have at your disposal. Oh yeah do that to the frame also where your swingarm pivot bolt goes and front steering stem. Also use a very fine grain sand so you don't pit the engine. As far as paints for the engine any high temp engine paint from your local automotive store should work fine. Or you may be able to order some from a Honda dealer. Just my $.02

What do I use to remove the old paint from the frame? Doesn't sandblasting do that? What is the best way to remove the paint from the frame and the motor? Also do I put a coat/coats of primer on the motor too, wht about clearcoat. THANKS

Yes, they make a high temp primer also at auto parts store or auto paint store. 1 to 2 coates of primer will be good. Use a high gloss finish paint for the engine, I don't believe they make a high temp clearcoat, but I could be wrong. Ask at the auto paint store. Oh don't try to wet sand the engine between coats it will be a real pain in the butt. There are too many little ridges and grooves.
