Default ATC110 Running issues

I just picked up an 81 ATC 110 for a whopping $150, it ran rough and smoked, wouldn't idle.
I did the basics, pulled the air cleaner box and found that was caked, replaced with another filter. Pulled the carb apart and cleaned that, seemed to be pretty clean regardless.
Spark plug was black/oily and the gap was like.05, gapped that to spec as per the manual.
still will no idle, bogs down under a load, I've trying playing with the idle and mixture valves but they dont seem to make a difference..
found out the hard way after yanking my shoudler out that the thing won't run without some restriction on the intake...blah

any ideas beyond what I have done or just keep messing with the carb to get it set right?

It sounds like the carb needs a good cleaning
Usually when they bogg that is a sign of not enough fuel
There are several passages in the carb the best way to clean is soak overnight in parts dip

I am working on a 82/110 I just picked up Monday this week
Same issue
Took carb apart looked clean reassembled same exact issue
Cleaned carb over night
Clean air filter
Engine ran OK but blubbered on topend
Found air filter that was in housing did not allow for air to circulate in airbox
Tried without air filter
Thing screams
Open air box
I would pickup carb kit and clean
Also check while carb is cleaning
Valve adjust
Change oil
Get new spark plug
When get running st timing
Has this got CDI or points
Good luck Ray

looks like this thing has the points setup,
I have pulled the carb apart and cleaned it the best I could with carb cleaner, a small toothbrush and qtips and compressed air, I did not however soak it overnight which I'll try doing tonight.
It still will not idle, and power drops off over about 1/2 throttle but runs well below that.
plug looks ok, if anything it indicates it may be running a little lean, I have cleaned the plug a couple times and only the 1st time did it appear blackish/oily
I have ordered a carb rebuild kit so we'll see if that helps, the high idle and fuel mix now seem to be doing a little something but it still won't idle
I'll wait for the kit, soak the thing and hope for the best.
I'm unsure though after looking thru the shop manual and owners manual...how to adjust the main jet on the carb?

More than likely you are dealing with a couple issues at this time with the carb
It sounds like the Idle jet is probably plugged I have tried to clean
Found about anything run through there makes way rich
New one in kit
Definately soak carb as passages are tough to clean
On my 82 -110
The manual calls for 1-3/8 open on the air fuel
I started there one is at 1-1/2 open
The other bike is 2-1/2 open
Start with stock main jet new one also in kit
Set metering rod where the old one is
Usually grove 2 or 3 up from bottom metering rod is in slide
This can be moved up od down for higher speed adjust
I have found this will affect Idle
Also check the air filter may be restricted
One of mine was not allowing enough air to carb
Also check the air tube in frame could be plugged
Good luck

it could be carb probs but to me does it smoke bad? sounds like to me it needs a set of rings and if u dont have them changed it will get to where u just couldnt get by with a set of rings if it has been run a long time smoking it may need to be bored good luck though. it may be best for u to find another one. i found one a week ago a honda 185s for just 200$ was very lucky motor is strong great compression and doesnt smoke just needs a chain =)

i had a similar problem on an '85.
put a new carb on.
same problem.
Ended up being the airbox was too restrictive.
Ran great w/ airbox lid off & new filter in.
Try that & see if it helps.
If it does, you can buy some small filters that fit in 1" holes you drill in the airbox lid for more flow.
