1981 honda 200s CAM CHAIN ADJUSTMNT??

Default 1981 honda 200s CAM CHAIN ADJUSTMNT??

I JUST BOUGHT THIS 1981 HONDA 200S AND IT SEEMS IT HAS SOME SLAPPING ??? IT RUNS GREAT AND HAS ALOT OF POWER. IS THERE A WAY TO ADJUST THE CAM CHAIN? OR DO I NEED TO REPLACE IT? PLUS I JUST CHANGED THE OIL AND THERE WAS SOME METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OLD OIL??? WHATS THIS FROM?

PLEASE HELP. IF THERE IS A PLACE TO ADJUST THE CAM CHAIN PLEASE PROVIDE A PIC OF IT THANKS..

Default 1981 honda 200s CAM CHAIN ADJUSTMNT??

It's an easy taske. Start the motor up and let it idle, on top of the gear box is a black rubber boot. Pull it off and under it is what looks like a double nut with a screw. loosen the lower nut against the case a couple of turns and the cam tension will automatically set, then just retighten the lower nut and put the black boot back on. If your chain slapped around like mine did you'll notice the noise go away very easily.

FYI do not try and undo the top nut from the threads...... just the lower one.

ok, well there is a shop here in town that i am taking it to they said 10 bucks, they can fix it, i am just afraid it has jumped time, this morning i went to start it and i caould not get it started. but thanks for the help,. i found the boot you were talking about. but it looks like a bolt insted of a screw.??

did yours make alot of racket?? did it quiet it down alot?? how long before it starts doing it again?

mine was very noisy, could easily hear it 20 feet away. As soon as I loosened the bolt/nut a bit the noise went completely away. It's been a few weeks now and it hasn't come back yet and I drive it almost every night.
