Tri-Z 250
#1
I have an 85 Yamaha Tri-Z 250. It is quick. I would like to find out a few things about it though. Did it come originally with black plastic? What is the light bulb that comes on when you first start it up? What is it worth in excellent condition. Is it a sought after machine at all, or will it be hard to get rid of. Any answers will be much appreciated.

I have 2 friends that own tri-Zs. One has a 85. His 85 is black w/ a red seat and the airbox/tank has sone red on it.It also has gold rims I hane seen sevrel pic of black and yello 85's. 85's were 5 speeds and the coolant overflow is under the seat and the kill switch and light control are different than the 86. On my other friends 86 the light in the top of the headlight is a high temp light. A green wire will run from the lamp down to the thermostat housing but I 'm not shure wat this ight does on the 85. One thing you need to do is make sure that your water pump is working. Just take the cap off of the radiator and kick it over you should be able to see the coolant flowing. The 86 is a 6 speed and the coolant overflow is atached to the frame. Thi 86 is all white w/black seat. The 86 is in my garage I could email you some pic of it .
One thing about Tri-Z my friend love them but the parts are usualy unavaible or either very expensive. This guys are not fans of the 250r but you can get parts for them, preformance or regular and the don't cost that much. I don't know about California but a Tri-Z in good shape would sell for about $1,500. here in Illinois.

Check mine out.I'm thinking of selling it, i'm not sure if I should though....To answer your question the 1985 Z came in both Yellow and Black and Red and Black. The 86 came in White and Black and Red and Black. The Z seems to be a sought after bike, if you want something different and the parts aren't hard to find, pick up a dennis kirk catalog and anything you need to rebuild is in there and if you want some performance tips let me know. Good luck.

Man, that's one bad Z! Did you have to rehab that one or was it in that shape when you found it? I love to see the old 2s in that great of shape, I have been pouring my money into an old Quadzilla. I've basically redone everything on it from the ground up. The stuff they make now just can't stand up to those 80's monsters.
