Default atc 200 trans. ?

I purchased an '82 atc 200 Wed. and am having a blast with the five year old boy. I have 5 acres, so we have enough room to have some fun. It runs great and drives out pretty nice. The tranny seems to have an issue or two though. It is five down and when you shift from gear to gear the shifter goes down and stays there instead of coming back up like it should, so have to slightly push it back up where it goes and then it will take off in that gear. It's almost as though it's stuck between gears. Anything I can do to fix the problem. Also the clutch seems to slip when you give it more than half throttle or when climbing a small hill. Can this be adjusted and if so how? Thanks for any help.

This spring centers the gearshift , sounds like yours is broken or gearshift spindle is broke ..

Okay, thanks. I've printed this off and I'll dig into as soon as I can and let you know what I've found.

Hi Hondamechanic,
Been reading your replies, and i am really impressed on your expertise!
I just acquired an 83' 200atc and changed the engine oil. However i cant seem to find drain for the transmission. I was thinking of changing the gear oil too if it does have one. I am pretty new to ATC's and the previous owner didnt even know what model of 200ATC it is. I have a VIN #JH3TB051-GDC3237 if that would be of any help to identify the model. This model has 5spd , hi-low and chain drive.

The motor and transmission use the same oil , it is the 24mm oil plug on the lower left just in front of the gearshift .. They don't use an oil filter they use a screen that's in the same hole .. The 1983 ATC200E uses a chain drive so there's no gear oil , the 1984 ATC200ES is shaft drive and does use gear oil ..

The serial number you have here is only 15 digits (and the "G" doesn't look right , are you sure it's not a "9") and should be 17 , your year code leter is the "D" which is 1983 ..
