Default Pull Starter Rebuild Q. 83 200s

Well, the order I have it is pulley, washer, spring, (put dogs and springs in pulley), the top plate, then washer then C-Clip. Sound right? And it works fine with the top plate, just not with the dogs in it. That is my loss there...

Nothing looks bent, but I sure wish I had another complete setup right now, just in case. The old parts were pretty bad, but I am replacing most of it with the rebuild kit. I can't tell exactly what is rubbing either. Or what else to try.

You've gotta have a problem with the dogs then (I guess that is the nam for the three little thingies that are tear-dropped in shape). Do you have the little springs in the holes? Do you have the springs turned the right way? When you pull on the string, the dogs should be pushed out, then as it winds back up, they'll be forced back in.

I have the dogs in like the manual shows, springs too, When I pull the cord, the dogs spring out and return, and when I release the pressure on the cord, they retract, but it does not recoil. I thought they might be sticking or something, but I dont see how.

wind up the rope pretty tight on the pulley(quite a bit too), put the end through the hole and then pull the rope out until the pulley is pretty tight, i would say around 2 to 3 1/2' if not more, then hold that there, put the handle on the rope tie the knot and then cut the excess rope off and burn the end so it does frey later.

when you do all this keep the pulley on it's side and press down so it doesn't pop out, after you get it tight(wound), you can use a c-clamp etc.. to hold the pulley while you put the handle on. then put the washer and little lock washer back on. after that you can put it upright and test the recoil, if you pulled enough rope out it should be perfect!

Justin

be sure to put as much rope as you can, you can just get nylon rope from m&d or something and put enough so when you pull the rope out when your winding it you'll have enough on the pulley to turn over the crank.

Default Pull Starter Rebuild Q. 83 200s

Well folks, I tried everything here, and everything I can think of, and still have no luck here. There must be something wrong with the housing or something that I cannot see. I tried the old parts, new parts, extra winding, fewer dogs, larger top plate (original one had larger holes for the dogs), different spring, washer/no washer, and still no luck.

Either I got a rebuild kit that is just as bad off as my original remaining parts, or there is something up with the housing, or I am just totally incapable of putting it back together somehow. I am going to do my best to find a decent one at a decent price on ebay and hope that works. I have already spent more on parts than I paid for the ATC, so whats another bit more.

Thanks again for the ideas and helping me make sure I am not THAT far off on assembling it.

Where are you located? Maybe if you lived somewhere close by, someone on here could try and take a second look at it. Either that or take it to a lawnmower repair shop and see if they can take a look at it.

As far as spending more on parts than on the trike, get used to it...I bought my 2 110s for $50 and have spent around $200 getting one of them rebuilt and going. The other one still is not running at all. I don't think it is too hard to spend more on repairs than original purchase Good luck with it.

Yep, I got both my 200s's for 150 bucks, but have put probably around 200 bucks in parts into em so far, they both run, but they are butt *** ugly too. So inevitabely I will most likely spend that or more getting them looking good again too.

I like the whole 'rebuilding' thing, I could just go out and buy a new or new-used 4-wheeler or something, but wheres the fun in that?
