HI,I just picked up a 1985 big red and im having problems with the carb ,it only runs with the choke on.second it is smoking and burning oil.Its been awhile since i wrench on my trikes so I'm guessing it needs a top end rebuild but what do you guys and girls think?

 

Smoking would possibly be oil
I would be more concerned with only running with choke on
Sounds like the carb is either plugged up and needs cleaned and new kit
And possibly a intake vacume leak
Is the rubber on the intake cracked
Quick thing to try
Smear some grease around the rubber intake and try
If runs without choke
You have intake leak
If not clean and rebuild carb
Soak carb in Carb Cleaner
Do Not just spray with can carb cleaner and think it clean
Soak
O I almost forgot
Get a manual they are worth their weight unless you already have one
Then see how bad engine smokes
It may clean up once carb is working and taken out for ride
