Default 85 200x shifting problems

I have a 85 honda 200x and when shifting from neutral to 1st it feels like it clicks in but stays in neutral. It takes a couple of trys to get it into 1st. Sometimes it goes right in. Also when shifting from 2nd to 3rd sometimes it stays in 2nd and it takes 1 or 2 more trys to get it to shift. Does anybody know what this could be? I have not had time to take the cover off and instpect anything yet but would love to hear what you guys think. Thanks for any help I can get.

More often than not fresh full synthetic Honda gold bottle oil does wonders for hard shifting.

I dont think that is it. Its somthing inside the case. You can feel it "click" like its in the gear you want but when you let the clutch out its not. Thanks though

So I have a update for my problem I pushed the shifter in the case about 1/8 inch and put a hoseclamp to hold it there and it works great. So somthing is letting that shiter move a little to much I guess. I was told it was the star inside the case but not sure.
